Tiia-Mari Mäkinen is a Finnish theater professional with a wide experience of movement based theater. She has graduated from the Helsinki Metropolia University as a Bachelor of Arts, from Antonio Fava’s Scuola Internazionale dell’Attore Comico as a Commedia dell’Arte expert and completed her studies at École Internationale de Théâtre Lassaâd.
Mäkinen is a founding member of three international theater companies: I Naufraghi Teatro, Compagnie du Boulanger and Hippana Theatre. During the recent years Mäkinen has been working as a director, actress, playwright and teacher at various places in Finland, England, Italy, Netherlands and USA. Her vision in creating theater rises from belief in ensemble work where the creation becomes a polyphonic symphony of different views surrounding the world. Her artistic view leans on the conception of understanding the world through gestures and movement, through body talk. Theater that serves the public anywhere at any time without boundaries of language, culture or time.
